About Women Build

How Women Build helps build more homes

The Women Build department helps Habitat for Humanity International build more homes by involving women and girls in building homes and communities. Women represent a tremendous, often untapped, volunteer pool, and Women Build projects provide an opportunity for them to learn construction skills through training opportunities and by working on Women Build houses with crews predominantly comprising women.

Women Build works through Habitat for Humanity affiliates to recruit and train women construction volunteers. Thanks to the high-quality training and hands-on construction experience offered by the Women Build program, Women Build volunteers often become long-term, committed affiliate volunteers. Every week women who have learned their skills through Women Build are found on regular Habitat builds, helping women of modest means to secure safe, decent, affordable housing for their families in communities around the world.

Nearly 800 Habitat houses have been built by women crews in the United States and thirteen additional countries. This number is growing by 150 homes or more each year as affiliates, donors and sponsors recognize the impact of these new women volunteers and the resources they bring.
