Planned Giving

Habitat for Humanity-Greater Columbus Legacy Club – Together, we’re building for the future.

"I see life as both a gift and a responsibility. My responsibility is to use what God has given me to help his people in need." Millard Fuller, Founder, Habitat for Humanity.

As a young man, Millard Fuller was inspired to express God’s love to his poorer neighbors.  After spending several years seeking to learn from communities from Appalachia to Africa, Fuller met with a group of close associates in 1976 to create Habitat for Humanity International. Today, Habitat for Humanity has built more than 400,000 houses, sheltering more that 1.75 million people in more than 3,000 communities worldwide.  The legacy continues with you.

The Millard Fuller Society was designed to recognize those individuals who realize that the work to eradicate poverty housing will continue beyond their lifetimes, and who make a planned gift to Habitat for Humanity-Greater Columbus.  There are only two requirements for membership in the Millard Fuller Society.  First, make arrangements to benefit Habitat for Humanity-Greater Columbus after your lifetime, whether in the form of a bequest in your will or a plan that provides life income and income tax benefits like a gift annuity.  Second, contact us and let us know about your plans.  It is not necessary to specify a dollar value for these plans, but having some idea of the details allows us to plan for the future and is appreciated.

With careful and creative planning, your estate gift can result in increased retirement income; reduced income, capital games and estate taxes; and most importantly, a legacy of decent houses for those in need.   To make a charitable bequest, you need a current will or revocable living trust.  Your gift can be made as a percentage of your estate, or you can make a specific bequest by giving a certain amount of cash, securities or property, or by naming Habitat for Humanity-Greater Columbus as a beneficiary of your life insurance, pension plan, or 401K or IRA.  And when planning your legacy giving, you do not have to choose between Habitat and your family; you can give to both.  In fact, in some cases, the charitable gift may reduce inheritance taxes for your family.  You may also change your gift at any time, should something occur.

Please consider making a legacy gift and continue the fight against poverty housing beyond your lifetime. For more information contact Sue Melnyk.
