Is my contribution to Habitat tax deductible?

Any donation to Habitat for Humanity is 100% tax deductible as long as no goods or services were provided by Habitat in return. All financial contributions to Habitat for Humanity-Greater Columbus are acknowledged with a letter that will serve as a tax receipt. We also provide tax receipts for in-kind donations, including donations to Habitat’s ReStore.

Can I designate my contribution for a specific project or program?

Yes, you may designate your gift for a specific purpose. Whether you download and mail in our donor form or make a gift online via PayPal, you will have the opportunity to either designate your gift for a specific purpose or make an unrestricted donation. If you designate your gift, 100% of your contribution will be used for the project or program you have specified.

How much of my gift will be used to build Habitat houses?

Like every nonprofit organization, Habitat for Humanity-Greater Columbus must use a certain percentage of donations for fundraising and administrative expenses. However, because we use almost all of the profits from Habitat’s ReStore to help pay these expenses, the percentage of donations we are able to use for construction and other program costs is exceptionally high. On average, for every dollar we receive, 96.5 cents goes directly to building Habitat houses, supporting Habitat families, and other program expenses. As the ReStore continues to expand, we are approaching our goal to cover 100% of all of our fundraising and administrative expenses with store profits.

What is the Columbus Affiliate’s most crucial need?

We are always in need of unrestricted donations. When you make an unrestricted gift to the Affiliate, we are able to use your contribution wherever and whenever the need for funding is greatest. Every gift we receive—large or small, restricted or unrestricted—helps us to build affordable homes for more Habitat families.

Are donations to Habitat for Humanity International passed on to local affiliates?

Yes, but only if a gift is designated to a local affiliate. If you designate your contribution to the Greater Columbus Affiliate, Habitat International will assess an administrative fee and then forward the balance of your donation to us. If you want 100% of your gift to support our Affiliate, you may want to donate directly to Habitat for Humanity-Greater Columbus using one of the gift methods described on our web site.

How much does it cost to sponsor a Habitat house?

Our Habitat house sponsorships range from a partial sponsorship of $5,000 to a full and exclusive sponsorship of $100,000. Each sponsorship level offers benefits to the donor, including the opportunity to reserve volunteer work shifts at the construction site. We also offer our donors the opportunity to become a Day Sponsor with a gift of $1,000 for any weekday and $2,500 for a Saturday. A Day Sponsorship reserves all of the on-site volunteer work shifts on the chosen day for your business associates or group members. Regardless of the level of sponsorship, 100% of your donation will be used to purchase the construction materials and services needed to build a Habitat home.
