Winter Warriors

Winter volunteers needed now!  January, February, March

  • Can you take a day off of work?
  • Do you work a night shift?
  • Are you currently laid off and looking for something productive to do?
  • Are you a student on winter break?

Can you find a way to give a day to help build a Habitat home?  If you can, we need you to volunteer as a Winter Warrior.

“Winter Warriors” are those volunteers who are willing to brave the cold, wintery weather to help us build decent, affordable homes for deserving low-income families in Franklin County. Through this new program, all Winter Warriors who volunteer on a home construction site during the months of January – March will receive a free Winter Warriors long-sleeve t-shirt.

Volunteers who donate more hours to home construction during January – March will receive other special Winter Warriors incentives. Those incentives include:

20 hours:    Winter Warrior knit hat
50 hours:    Winter Warrior hooded sweatshirt
100 hours:  Winter Warrior fleece vest
200 hours:  Winter Warrior fleece blanket

Work shifts are Tuesdays – Saturdays, 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. Volunteers are asked to commit to work a full shift; and weekday volunteers are especially needed. A special “Evening Crew” also needs volunteers for 5:30 – 8:00 p.m. shifts on Wednesdays and Thursdays.  Sign up to volunteer now!

No prior experience is necessary.  Construction leaders will provide needed construction and worksite safety training at the beginning of the work day.

Individuals, businesses, and organization are asked to volunteer. Construction activities include exterior and interior work.  Depending on the stage of construction, homes may or may not have indoor heating.  Volunteers are asked to bundle up for the weather conditions. Sturdy, hard-soled, closed-toe shoes or work boots must be worn on site. Tools and worksite safety equipment is provided by Habitat.

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old; or at least 16 if working alongside an accompanying adult and with a signed waiver for minors on file. For additional information about volunteering, see our Volunteer Manual for individuals or our Volunteer Teams Manual.

You can also help us spread the word about Winter Warrior volunteer opportunities.  Print our poster and hang it at your place of business, church, school, dorm, local business, or other public area.  (Be sure to ask for permission from the owner or manager before posting at private entities.)
