Over ten years ago, Habitat for Humanity-Greater Columbus opened a retail store, the “Build It Again Center”.  This year, we changed our name in order to adopt the Habitat International store brand called ReStore.  We will now be called “Habitat’s ReStore”. Habitat’s ReStore is a re-sale store whose entire profits support Habitat for Humanity-Greater Columbus.  We receive donated new and gently used home improvement materials on a daily basis, so shop often! Items are sold to the public and typical items in stock are 50% off retail price.  A benefit for donors is that donations of home improvement materials are tax deductible!

The Mission of Habitat's ReStore consists of three major points:

1.       We seek to supply the community with low-cost home improvement materials, providing a resource for affordable building supplies. Our customers have told us repeatedly that our store is the only place that they can afford to buy the materials necessary to repair and enhance their homes.

2.       We seek to keep reusable building materials from going to the landfill. The environmental aspect of our business has been something that our volunteers and community have really rallied behind. In 2001, we earned a Keep Columbus Beautiful award in the Recycle and Rethink category.  In 2003, we earned the White Glove Award for Excellence in Recycling.  We manage to divert between 1200-1650 tons of reusable materials from the landfill each year.

3.       We seek to financially support Habitat for Humanity-Greater Columbus.  All the funds generated by Habitat’s ReStore directly offset Habitat for Humanity-Greater Columbus’ administrative costs.  This helps Habitat to continue its mission of building affordable houses, empowering families, and developing communities.

Many of our donated items come from people who are remodeling their homes. We also receive tons of donated items from builders, contractors, businesses, and corporations.  Everyday we receive new deliveries of good quality cabinets, doors, sinks, lighting, windows, fixtures, and much more. If you don’t find what you are looking for, come back the next day and you may be able to find it!  We participate in deconstruction efforts as well.  If you are aware of a property slated for demolition, please contact Habitat’s ReStore and we will go in and salvage what we can.
